Biblical Character Training

Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” It is our duty as parents to lay the holy foundation for our children so that no matter what comes they will be rooted to our Creator. This by no means is an easy task, I actually find it the most difficult, but most rewarding part of parenting. If your child masters trigonometry, but doesn’t know the one who died for his sins what have you really accomplished? Teaching our children who God is and who he wants them to be is the main goal of their home education.

There are many different character training tools available at a cost, but I found one that is FREE! This curriculum that’s not specifically designed for home schoolers is incredibly comprehensive. Kids Of Integrity by Focous On The Family Canada is a program for all parents to foster Godly character in their children. It has lessons ranging from acceptance and self control to special holiday lessons. There are 29 biblical lessons in total that are completely free.

The lessons have amazing online format, but you can also download the pdfs. I’m a hard copy kind of mama, so I chose to print all the files creating two sprial-bound books through Office Depot online. I saved those files onto one easy to use Dropbox file I’m excited to share with my readers. I am able to highlight, ad sticky notes, and scribble in my copies to help myself plan.

With this amazing resource our family is able to cover character training, art, Bible, outdoor activities, reading, gross and fine motor skills. Each lesson is so beautifully presented beginning with goals, an incredibly power parent prayer, sample prayers for children and both have scripture guides. Biblical affirmations and creative discipline are a pleasant unexpected bonus. Going with the Charlotte Mason approach all character traits include 10+ memory verses to choose from. Incorporating art each lesson has a unique kick-off craft using each character trait. We have had so much fun with these crafts that are used as rewards throughout the week.

Our daily focus is the Bible story. Kids Of Integrity includes many bible stories to choose from, along with questions and a summary. With my three young children we choose one story. I incorporat our Flannelgragh whenever possible to really give the Bible stories a visual aspect. My kids love learning the story and adding the correct flannel pieces as we progress through the it. I purchased mine used, but ABCJesusLovesMe also has 20% off and some great information on getting started with the Flannelgragh. We also use our Living Bible it flows so well and is incredibly easy to grasp. We finish our daily lessons with a choice from the Hands-on options. There are car games, science experiments, field trip suggestions and so much more.

In closing I feel very blessed by and thankful for the creators of Kids of Integrity. It has been an incredible success in our home and I urge all parents to give it a try in theirs. God has blessed us so that we may bless others.

Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! 1 Chronicles 16:8
